Chuck Yeager is the most famous test pilot of all time. To say he was fearless is almost an understatement. He was a fighter pilot in World War 2. He was once asked about what he thought of the first German Jet Airplane he ever saw. “The first time I saw a jet plane? I shot it down.” He was notorious for being calm in crisis. He could be in an experimental aircraft spinning out of control and heading for a crash and maintain a calm voice and slow heartrate. He’d stay in control, make good decisions and walk away from the landing. Whether the plane could be used the next day or not determined if it was a good landing or a great landing. When we have teammates like Chuck Yeager, we need to be sure to not encumber them with rules. They will make up their own and impress us with what they can do.
